Speaking Programs

Tom is comfortable with all audiences. He speaks in an easy to understand manner mixed with practical experience and humor. Tom is unique in his ability to meet and talk with audience members immediately prior to his talk and then interject the things he learned as examples to personalize his information.

Tom's ability to interject audience experiences into his speeches serves multiple purposes:
  1. Increasing audience involvement.
  2. Using examples relevant to the audience making the information memorable.
  3. Empowering the audience to action by showing them practical application of the information.

“I've been to a lot of classes/meetings on the subject of social networking. When Tom came and spoke to a meeting I was at he took his teachings one step further. Prior to the meeting he had looked at the website of each person attending the meeting, he took the time to learn more about the business and he really got everyone involved. The main focus of the class was LinkedIn and Tom dissected each part of LinkedIn and talked about how you can get the most out of it. He recommended ways to save on time while still getting a lot out of the website. I related to what Tom was saying more than anyone else I've heard. He really understands what he is talking about, he cares about making each person more successful with social networking and he is very personable. I recommend Tom for anyone wanting to learn more about social networking and how to get more visibility from potential customers."

Branding!
It Is Who Knows You That Counts.

Whether you know it or not; You Are a Brand! Everyone has an expertise in something and that expertise can become your brand. It may be a vocation or it may be an avocation or it may be a specific skill or ability. Regardless an expertise lies within you and or your business and it is just waiting to come out.

When you identify that quality; you must let the world know about your brand. You must get the word out and establish yourself as the expert. You must let people know what you do and what you can do for others.

I am an avid proponent of the philosophy that: 1) "It is not who you know" and 2) "It is not how many you know". The truth is that: "It is WHO KNOWS YOU THAT COUNTS." Getting the word out so that others know you is the process of establishing your brand; creating your identity; determining your value.

I have spent many years establishing my value and all the while I was actually establishing my brand; I just did not know that! When I first started consulting I had an hourly rate that I charged; as I became busier, I raised my rate; as I became busier still, I raised it some more. I was always busy and there were only so many hours in a day, so if I wanted to increase my income; my rate was my only option.

Why was I getting busier? Because more people knew of me, they knew what I had to offer, and they wanted me to work with them regardless (within reason of course) of my rate. They were willing to pay the higher rate, because they knew my brand and were therefore willing to pay my rate.

Your brand directly corresponds to your value! There is no getting around that; it is a fact. If you want to earn more, you need the people that are interested in hiring you to perceive that you are worth more.

Your Value Is in Your Network
How to Grow an Effective Network

We all have networks; it is just that some are more well identified and accessible than others. How would you describe your network?

  1. Is it organized and developed; or is it languishing and dying?
  2. Is it a vibrant sharing process or is it neglected and only used when you need something?
  3. Is it growing and developing; or is it contracting and dormant?

These are all important and relevant questions that must be asked before we can move forward with our network. These questions must also be asked as we decide what type of network we want and what we see our network providing.

Your network provides value to you and to the others in your network. If you are looking for personal or business growth; it is achievable through a strong and vibrant network. Your value is in your network because those are the individuals with the best chance of knowing you and what you have to offer.

Dealing With the UNTHINKABLE
How to Survive When "Normal" Is Being Redefined

After everything we have seen over the past two years; most can agree that what we have come to know as "normal" is no longer the norm. We have seen failures of huge institutions, unemployment rates that have not been seen since the great depression, budget deficits that will be felt for decades, and other changes.

How do we cope, what career steps can we take to prepare ourselves in the event the UNTHINKABLE strikes? You need to be thinking about your career, your skills, and your future today. The security that many used to feel because they worked for a large, stable company is no longer a guarantee.

Not only do you need to be planning your career; you must be creating and building your brand. It is not "Who You Know"; it is not "How Many You Know"; instead it is "Who Knows You".

This speech provides insights and ideas that leaves the audience with actionable items to start building their personal, professional, and business brands allowing them to prepare for the UNTHINKABLE.
